Fort Towson Steamboat: (OK) Welcome to the website for the Fort Towson Steamboat, a Western Rivers sidewheeler believed to date to the 1840s. A new, small website is now online with photographs and information on the Fort Towson Steamboat, an early Western Rivers sidewheeler wrecked in the Red River in southeast Oklahoma. This vessel is one of the oldest Western Rivers wrecks to be investigated as an archeaeological site, and is believed to date to the early 1840s. This project is being conducted by the Oklahoma Historical Society (lead agency), the PAST Foundation and the Institute of Nautical Archaeology at Texas A&M University. This project is still in its initial phases, and more material will be added to the website as it becomes available. Come visit and learn more about the Fort Towson Steamboat.
